Wig Density Explained: 130%, 150%, 180% or 200%?

Density is the difference between “nice wig” and “is that your real hair?”. Here is what each density actually looks like and who it suits.

Density measures how much hair is ventilated onto the cap. It changes the look, the weight and the price — so it is worth choosing deliberately.

130% — light and natural

Mimics fine to medium natural hair. Light on the head and the most affordable, but can look thin in longer lengths. Good for short bobs.

150% — the everyday standard

Looks like healthy, full natural hair. Our default recommendation for lengths up to 20 inches and for anyone who wants a believable everyday look.

180% — full and glam

Noticeably voluminous, holds curls and waves beautifully, and photographs well. The most popular choice for 22 inches and up, and for body wave and deep wave textures.

200% — maximum volume

Red-carpet fullness. Stunning for special occasions and very long lengths, but heavier and hotter to wear daily.

How length changes the math

The same density looks thinner as length increases, because the hair is spread over more inches. A 24-inch wig at 150% can look sparse; at 180% it looks lush. If you are buying 26 inches or more, choose 180–200%.

Quick answer: 150% for short and medium everyday wigs, 180% for anything 22 inches or longer, 200% when you want drama.
